Salvatore (Sam) Urso
Dec.24, 1923 – Dec.04, 2020
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of beloved father and grandfather Sam on
December 4, 2020 aged 96 at the Park Manor Personal Care Home as a result of COVID-19.
Sam will be sadly missed by his wife Joyce of 64 years, son Vince (Pamela), son Fred (Carrie), daughter Kathy (Alistair), grandchildren Kristen, Tyler, Matthew, Sarah, Adam and Ryan.
Sam leaves to mourn his siblings Seena, Agnes, and Frank (Marge). He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Sam was predeceased by his parents Vincenzo and Ninfa, sisters Maria, Angeline and Josephine.
Sam was born December 24, 1923 in Trabia Italy. He immigrated to Canada in November 1925, and grew up in Transcona. Growing up he played organized hockey out of the Pirates Community Club. He met his wife Joyce at a dance at Winnipeg Beach. Back in the day you could take the train from Winnipeg to Winnipeg beach. They married in 1956 raising a family in the East Kildonan area. Sam enjoyed 5 pin bowling and watching NHL hockey, CFL football and MLB baseball. Sam liked music and it was not uncommon for Sam to start singing a song out loud. He worked for Burns Foods as a shipper retiring at the age of 65. Sam spent his retirement days walking half an hour to and from Kildonan Place during the week where he met friends spending the afternoon drinking coffee, conversing, laughing and telling jokes. Sam loved his grandchildren and spent many hours playing games or taking them out for treats. Sam spent the past several years at Park Manor Personal Care Home. Sam at 96 years old could still walk around without the use of a walker or cane, and would pass the days talking with the many residents and staff.
A special thanks to the Park Manor Personal Care Home staff for their dedication and support of Dad during his time at Park Manor. Thank you for being brave and taking care of everyone.
Sam will be missed by his family and friends.
Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
