Raymond (Ray) Walsh

Obituary

Raymond (Ray) Siden Walsh June 14, 1933 - September 22, 2022

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather.

Ray is survived by his children Ken Walsh, Kim Kropla (Gerald), and Heather Vandervis. Grandchildren Julie, Samantha, Trent, Riley, Casey, Taylor, Jessie, Vickie and great-grandchildren.

Ray is predeceased by his wife of 52 years Julie Walsh, daughter Shawn Walsh and son Rick Walsh.

He was born in Winnipeg and moved to Transcona in 1963 where he raised his family. He started an early career at Coca-Cola Company where he was a devoted employee until retirement.

He will forever be remembered for his quick wit and an incredible sense of humour that never faded with time. He was known for his gentle kind ways, and big heart and was always a source of easy calm finding humour to guide the way. Never one to raise his voice or show anger, if we were in trouble he would instead take us for ice cream and provide some words of wisdom and guidance. He never failed to call his son Ken at the start of a hockey game to shout GAME TIME and hang up laughing. He loved hard and laughed often while guiding us through life teaching us the importance of morals, values and responsibilities.

His greatest source of pride and joy was his family. Spending hours at rinks watching his kids and grandchildren play hockey and ringette, Having the grandchildren sleep over practically every weekend and having all his kids and grandkids surround him at his cottage in the summers.

Ray’s greatest pleasure in life was spending summers at the family cottage in Chalet Beach with his wife, children and grandchildren. Building his cabin was his favourite pastime and was truly a labour of love for him. Our fondest memories of him will be engrained forever in Chalet Beach where he not only built a cabin but built a family.

Ray has left cherished memories and great sorrow in the hearts of his surviving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

“To the rest of the world you were someone, but to us, you were the whole world. How lucky we are to have had something that makes saying goodbye so hard."
